Before Describing Taylor Lautner’s Workout, Here is a Quick Bio
He was born in 1992, on February the 12th. He was 17 at the time Twilight New Moon was filmed. He studied martial arts from the age of 6 to the age of 13. By the time he was twelve, he had already won a black belt at the Junior World Karate Championships. He started acting in 2001 and in 2008, he played a Native American named Jacob Black in the movie Twilight.
Lautner was not the director’s initial choice for the role of New Moon’s Jacob Black.
The Director of New Moon, Catherine Hardwicke, considered casting someone else to replace Taylor Lautner. She thought that Jacob Black should be played by someone that had more muscle and was a little more believable. You see, Jacob turns into a werewolf in this movie and she wanted someone with a stronger physical presence than Taylor Lautner.
Taylor Had to Gain Muscle Quickly or Possibly Lose His Role in New Moon
Fortunately, Taylor’s background in martial arts was helpful when he needed to improve his physical conditioning. If we were talking about a normal 17 year old boy that didn’t haven’t Taylor’s martial arts background, there isn’t any way he could have put on the amount of muscle he did in that small amount of time.
This is the trick behind Jacob Black’s toned, tight abs.
Lautner trained for nine months before New Moon began to film, though his abs can be credited to much more than just this exercise. Because he maintained an athletic lifestyle when he was younger, his natural muscle maturity and density was already that of an average twenty year old. Individuals who train in martial arts get their power by tightening up their core. As time passes, this core becomes even tighter, more solid, and defines the existing muscles. To make your abs more apparent, one needs to lower the percentage of their body fat through dieting, though Lautner’s abs can be credited to his experience in the martial arts.
For Lautner, gaining muscle was relatively simple.
Taylor add 20 pounds of muscle very quickly because of how young he was. Fitness magazines keep it a secret, but you can get mass very quickly when you are first starting to workout. The amount of muscle Taylor put on his body was the natural amount of muscle he was suppose to have. He’s not a very large person at all, and this is positive. Just like most young men I work with, he added on the natural amount of muscle he was supposed to have very quickly and easily. Because he devoted so much time to his workouts, he was able to accomplish this in 9 months. Usually, this process will take a year or two.
When Interviewed About How He Got in Shape for New Moon
If you see any of Taylor Lautner’s interviews, you will notice he is pretty vague about his workouts. Instead, he says “I exercised a bunch and ate a bunch”. Honestly, this is all it takes for a young guy in his late teens to early 20′s to gain those 15-25 pounds. After this, the secret is how to drop the fat and just have lean muscle. Taylor Lautner has his high metabolism rate working for him as he’s still young. As he grows a bit older he will have to change his strategy.
