Namir Faidi Review: There Will Be Blood left a mark in cinematic history that will be a standard for years to come. When an individual can see a picture for in excess of ten minutes with completely no spoken word and be totally entranced by every single second of it, there is something truly exceptional about that, says the critic Namir Faidi. One of this film’s directors, Paul Thomas Anderson’s favorite movies is The Treasure of Sierra Madre and each and everyone who has seen it knows why, and can absolutely notice the affect this film had on Mr. Anderson. They also may know why this director does not crank out films at every turn, film projects are selected precisely and in time. It is my belief that this is one of the most stunning tales of greed and wealth caught on film, this film is a genuine gem for cinema enthusiasts and should be prized as such. One of the best things about the film is its deficiency of appeal to the mass community and standardized movie going audiences. Going back to the Western style of movie makingWestern approach to film making this picture is brimming with astonishing canvas shots long breathtaking views of The United States and inspires a lusty emotion of ambition and possibility. It’s no surprise this is an Oscar winner for best Cinematography, one of the most qualified awards is in recent memory. Loosely adapted from Upton Sinclair’s novel Oil! this motion picture is about the oil boom in the late 1800′sthe oil craze in the later 1800′s) and a man who decided to take advantage on it. A big factor in the motion picture besides from the spectacular cinematography work and shot selection is the music for the film, those two powerful things set the tone for the whole film. The film would not be as superior as it is without a haunting score by Johnny Greenwood, guitarist from the band Radiohead, it too should have picked up an Oscar but regrettably and oddly the music was all written prior to the motion picture was produced. One thing that can’t be explained in writing and would be a mission unto itself in person would be to begin to dissect the unsurpassable performance, to be matched with that of Jack Nicholson or Marlon Brando in their most successful day, of Daniel Day Lewis, who also picked up an Oscar for the film. There Will Be Blood is sure to become a landmark film. If you do not have access to a darkened theater with a film projector, which the best way to watch this motion picture, be sure you at least watch it on Blu-Ray with a Hi-Def television and have a quality stereo, you would otherwise be doing yourself an injustice.
